"A Basket Case" is a woman-owned business that provides unique, personal gifts. Cheryl Bode, the owner and founder, was employed for over 20 years as a corporate executive traveling for business on a regular basis. When her mother needed care and came to live with her and her husband, Cheryl wanted to find a job that let her stay close to home. Cheryl’s husband suggested she visit a bookstore and buy a book on starting your own home business. That very evening Cheryl called a local book store and asked if they had any books on starting a business from home. The book store had only one book, How to Start Your Own Gift Basket Business. While reading the book, Cheryl thought of her recent frustration when searching for a coffee basket for a friend and realized that unique gifts were just not available. When she mentioned the idea to her husband he blurted out “A Basket Case” and the business found a name.

That was five years ago. Today “A Basket Case” is a successful business that continues to grow through “word of mouth” advertising. Catering to large Philadelphia hotels, corporate clients and individuals, Cheryl and her team use imagination and ingenuity in their creations. “We’re not just baskets and we’re not just food” says Cheryl. “I attend gift shows to keep up on what’s new out there. I test everything myself before using it for clients and I’m not easily satisfied.”

Testimonials

My business has always been about long-term relationships; driving relationships is a key component of our business strategy. Whether it's making a contact for the first time - or developing a relationship over a period of time, both are critical to our success. Business Clubs America affords us the opportunity to do both of those things- and do them in an environment conducive to effective relationship development with other top executives and entrepenuers.

Business Clubs America is a fantastic, fast growing and unique concept that provides its members with ample opportunity for us to build new realtionships and strengthen my current business relationships. Another element that we've enjoyed is the many opportunities for hospitality.  Spending valuable time with my clients in a fun & unique setting has proven to be valuable over the past 3 years.  Since joining the organization, I have had the opportunity to meet with great people who have not only become clients but friends as well.

Everything from the caliber of the speakers to the professional, committed staff and the facilitated introductions to other business leaders makes BCA an incredibly valuable and effective tool in our overall business plan.  We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with not only BCA but its members in the years to come.

Thanks to the BCA staff and its committed members. We look forward to future events and the many professional/personal relationships that will develop moving forward.
