  • Ruben Amaro

  • Ruben Amaro Jr. was appointed the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies on November 3, 2008. Ruben Amaro, Jr. had been an assistant general manager of the Phillies for 10 years prior to his appointment.

    MLB Career   
    Ruben Amaro Jr. started his major league baseball career with the California Angels in 1991.  He joined the Phillies in 1992, staying with them through the 1993 season as part of the National League championship team.  Amaro played for the Cleveland Indians in 1994 and 1995, before returning to Philadelphia in 1996. In 1996, he ranked third in the league in pinch hitting with a .387 batting average. He retired as a player following the 1998 season.   

    Management Career   
    After retiring as a player, Amaro became an assistant general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.  He worked under general manager Ed Wade through the 2005 season. From 2006 through 2008,  Amaro worked for general manager Pat Gillick.
