  • Tony Gwynn

  • Tony Gwynn had a very successful major league career while playing all 20 years with the San Diego Padres. Considered by many to be the best and most consistent hitter of all time, Tony was an eight-time batting champion, received five Gold Glove Awards and was selected to the All Star Team 15 times. Tony ranks third on the list of players to reach the 3000 hits milestone in the fewest number of games.

    In 2007 Tony Gwynn was inducted into the Major League Baseball hall of fame. To honor Tony for all of his accomplishments the Padres retired his number 19 jersey . Tony has returned to his alma mater, San Diego State University, and is entering his seventh year as the Aztec's head baseball coach.
